DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of hurricane Hilda was located near latitude 15.0 north, longitude 147.4 west. Hilda is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph, 17 km/h. Hilda is forecast to gradually turn toward the northwest and move slightly more slowly over the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 110 mph, 175 km/h, with higher gusts. Hilda is forecast to continue weakening over the next 48 hours.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles, 35 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles, 150 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 964 mb, 28.47 inches.
