DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 pm HST, 0900 UTC, the center of hurricane Hilda was located near latitude 14.5 north, longitude 145.6 west. Hilda is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph, 19 km/h. Hilda is expected to gradually turn toward the northwest and slow in forward speed over the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph, 205 km/h, with higher gusts. Hilda is a category three hurricane on the saffir-simpson hurricane wind scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible tonight, followed by gradual weakening on Sunday, and more significant weakening on Monday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles, 35 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 125 miles, 205 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 953 mb, 28.15 inches.
