DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 pm HST, 0900 UTC, the center of hurricane Hilda was located near latitude 13.3 north, longitude 140.9 west. Hilda is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph, 24 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue through Sunday, with some decrease in forward speed.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph, 165 km/h, with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 12 to 24 hours. A weakening trend is forecast to begin on Sunday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 15 miles, 30 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles, 130 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb, 28.74 inches.
