A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR:

PORTIONS OF THE PAPAHANAUMOKUAKEA MARINE NATIONAL MONUMENT, FROM
FRENCH FRIGATE SHOALS TO LISIANSKI.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE WARNING AREA WITHIN 36 HOURS.

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 pm HST, 0600 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 25.1 north, longitude 168.2 west. Ana is moving toward the north-northwest near 12 mph, 19 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue through Thursday night, followed by an increase in forward speed and a turn toward the northeast late Friday. Along this track, the center of Ana will be near gardner pinnacles this evening and will pass east of maro reef tonight and early Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph, 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual intensification is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 150 miles, 240 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb, 29.68 inches.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

WIND

Tropical storm conditions are expected over gardner pinnacles and nearby waters through tonight and will affect the maro reef area into Thursday morning.

SURF

Large swells produced by Ana will continue across the northwest Hawaiian islands tonight and early Thursday. Surf produced by these swells will be dangerous along reefs.

RAINFALL

Rainfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches are possible over the northwest Hawaiian islands near the center of Ana.
