DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of hurricane Ana was located near latitude 36.3 north, longitude 160.9 west. Ana is moving toward the northeast near 38 mph, 61 km/h. A continued acceleration toward the northeast is expected into Sunday, followed by a decrease in forward motion Sunday night and Monday as an extratropical Ana interacts with another deep low to the west.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph, 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, with Ana expected to become a strong extratropical low on Sunday or Sunday night.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles, 45 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles, 220 km. The area of tropical storm force winds will expand on Sunday as Ana becomes extratropical.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb, 29.15 inches.
