DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 pm HST, 0300 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 27.2 north, longitude 170.2 west. Ana is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph, 11 km/h. Ana is expected to begin moving toward the north on Friday with a gradual increase in forward speed. A rapid acceleration toward the northeast is expected Friday night through Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph, 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles, 150 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb, 29.53 inches.
