DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 27.1 north, longitude 169.7 west. Ana is moving toward the north-northwest near 8 mph, 13 km/h. Ana is expected to begin moving toward the north on Friday with a gradual increase in forward speed. A rapid acceleration toward the northeast is expected Friday night and Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph, 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles, 220 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb, 29.50 inches.
