DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 pm HST, 0300 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 13.9 north, longitude 145.2 west. Ana is moving toward the west near 10 mph, 17 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph, 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, with Ana expected to become a hurricane on Wednesday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles, 95 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 996 mb, 29.42 inches.
