DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 14.0 north, longitude 144.2 west. Ana is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph, 13 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue over the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph, 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, with Ana expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles, 95 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb, 29.44 inches.
