DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 pm HST, 0300 UTC, the center of tropical storm Ana was located near latitude 12.9 north, longitude 142.5 west. Ana is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph, 11 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through Wednesday, although a slight turn to the west is forecast.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph, 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 25 miles, 35 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb, 29.68 inches.
