DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of tropical storm Julio was located near latitude 31.6 north, longitude 157.8 west. Julio is moving toward the east-northeast near 5 mph, 7 km/h. A continued slow northward motion is expected for the next 24 hours or so, followed by a turn toward the north.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast for the next 48 hours, and Julio is expected to become a tropical depression in the next day or two.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 90 miles, 150 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb, 29.24 inches.
