DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 pm HST, 0300 UTC, the center of hurricane Julio was located near latitude 30.9 north, longitude 159.1 west. Julio is moving toward the north-northeast near 3 mph, 6 km/h. A turn toward the northeast will occur tonight followed by a turn to the north and continued slow forward movement on Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph, 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady weakening is expected through Friday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 35 miles, 55 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 125 miles, 205 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 986 mb, 29.12 inches.
