DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of hurricane Julio was located near latitude 30.8 north, longitude 159.3 west. Julio is moving toward the north-northwest near 7 mph, 11 km/h. A turn to the north then northeast is expected today followed by a turn to the north on Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph, 130 km/h, with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 35 miles, 55 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles, 220 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 984 mb, 29.06 inches.
