DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 pm HST, 0900 UTC, the center of hurricane Julio was located near latitude 19.5 north, longitude 146.0 west. Julio is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph, 26 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue through this weekend.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph, 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next couple of days, but Julio is forecast to remain a hurricane into Sunday night.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 35 miles, 55 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles, 280 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 979 mb, 28.91 inches.
