DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 am HST, 1500 UTC, the center of hurricane Genevieve was located near latitude 12.8 north, longitude 176.8 west. Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph, 28 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue through tonight.with a gradual turn to the northwest on Thursday and Thursday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph, 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast, and Genevieve is expected to maintain typhoon intensity after crossing the international dateline into the northwestern Pacific ocean later today or tonight.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles, 45 km, from the center, and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles, 185 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb, 29.24 inches.
