DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 pm HST, 0900 UTC, the center of tropical storm Genevieve was located near latitude 12.1 north, longitude 175.2 west. Genevieve is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph, 22 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue through Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast, and Genevieve is expected to become a typhoon in the west Pacific in the next day or two.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 85 miles, 140 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb, 29.50 inches.
