DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 pm HST, 0900 UTC, the center of tropical depression Genevieve was located near latitude 9.9 north, longitude 159.6 west. The depression is moving toward the west near 16 mph, 26 km/h , and this motion is expected to continue through 24 hours. A gradual swing towards the west northwest is forecast between 24 and 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 24 hours. However, Genevieve is forecast to reach tropical storm strength again sometime between 24 and 48 hours.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb, 29.74 inches.
