DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 am HST, 2100 UTC, the center of tropical depression Genevieve was located near latitude 12.5 north, longitude 142.6 west. The depression is moving toward the west near 13 mph, 20 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue today, followed by a gradual turn toward the west-northwest, with a slowing in forward speed expected on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours, although the depression is forecast to become a remnant low by late Monday.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb, 29.74 inches.
