|DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK|
At 500 pm HST, 0300 UTC, the center of tropical storm Pewa was located near latitude 11.8 north, longitude 179.5 west. Pewa is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph, 20 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph, 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Pewa could become a typhoon in the next day or two.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles, 95 km from the center.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb, 29.53 inches.
