DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 500 am HST, 1500 UTC, the center of tropical storm Pewa was located near latitude 10.2 north, longitude 173.5 west. Pewa is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph, 20 km/h, and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph, 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 45 miles, 75 km from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb, 29.68 inches.
