TROPICAL WEATHER SUMMARY FOR THE CENTRAL NORTH PACIFIC 
NWS CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER HONOLULU HI 
200 AM HST FRI JAN 1 2016

FOR THE CENTRAL NORTH PACIFIC...BETWEEN 140W AND 180

ONE TROPICAL CYCLONE OCCURRED IN THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE 
CENTER /CPHC/ AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY /AOR/ DURING THE MONTH OF 
DECEMBER 2015. TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE-C DEVELOPED IN THE FAR 
SOUTHWESTERN CORNER OF THE AOR AT THE END OF THE MONTH...AND IT 
WAS STILL AN ACTIVE TROPICAL CYCLONE AS THE NEW YEAR OF 2016 
BEGAN.

THE 2015 TROPICAL CYCLONE SEASON WAS THE MOST ACTIVE ON RECORD.
TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE-C WAS THE SIXTEENTH TROPICAL CYCLONE IN THE
CPHC AOR DURING 2015. THIS SURPASSED BOTH 1992 AND 1994...WHICH EACH
HAD A TOTAL OF 11 TROPICAL CYCLONES. ALSO OF NOTE...NINE-C IS THE
FIRST TROPICAL CYCLONE IN THE BASIN DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER
SINCE TROPICAL STORM OMEKA OCCURRED A FEW DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS OF
2010.
