Issued: Aug 17, 2013 20:00 pm HST

For the central north Pacific, between 140°W and 180.

1. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued it last advisory for tropical storm Pewa, which is located about 1130 miles south of Midway atoll. Pewa is moving toward the west northwest at about 13 mph, which will bring the tropical cyclone across the international date line into the northwest Pacific ocean this evening. As a result, the next bulletin for Pewa will be issued by the regional meteorological center in Tokyo Japan. For u.s. Interests, see the department of defense warnings issued by the joint typhoon warning center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

2. A large area of showers and thunderstorms associated with an elongated surface trough located about 1080 miles west southwest of Lihue, Hawaii is moving westward at about 15 mph. Little significant development of this system is expected due to its close proximity to the outflow from tropical storm Pewa, which has been creating unfavorable winds aloft over the system. This system has a low chance, 20 percent, of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through early Monday evening.
