Issued: Aug 06, 2012 20:00 pm HST

For the central north Pacific, between 140°W and 180.

1. A gale low centered about 150 miles south southwest of Midway atoll, or more than 1200 miles west northwest of Lihue Hawaii, is moving toward the west or west southwest near 10 mph. Environmental conditions are not conducive for tropical cyclone development within this area, and there is a low chance, near 0 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. Even though this system does not have tropical characteristics, it has an associated area of showers and thunderstorms with strong gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall which will be affecting portions of the northwest Hawaiian islands, including Midway atoll, during the next 24 hours. Also, the low may move west of the date line later tonight or Tuesday, into the western Pacific.

Elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through Wednesday evening.
